Piggable Wye Connections

APPLICATION & PRODUCT RANGE

History

Wye connections have introduced a new concept in the pipeline piggability.

Before the introduction of wye connections, trunklines coming from satellite platforms or subsea installations were connected to the export pipelines through barred tees which are very limited in terms of pigging, allowing only pigging of the main run while the incoming trunkline connected to the branch, were guided bars are welded, cannot be pigged.

Wye connections have removed this limitation allowing full piggability through both the trunklines with any type of pigs, spheres and intelligent pig.

The first North Sea wye connection which went into service in 1985 – Norwegian sector, was a symmetrical Wye installed in the 20” pipeline from Ula to Gyda Field.FAI was awarded this Wye from Statoil, becoming the Pioneer in supply of piggable wyes.

Design

The Wye internal profile The Wye internal profile is the result of FAI knowledge achieved through past projects. The FAI Wye internal profile enables the pig abilitily by any type of pigs, batman pigs and intelligent pigs.

WYE MATERIAL

FAI Wye pieces are produced from a solid forging with a carefully selected material chemistry to suit the enhanced steel grades typical in the today’s modern pipelines.

The steel chemistry proposed in our wyes guarantees excellent weldability and ensures mechanical proprieties in the heart of the wye thicker section (crotch area) which is the most stressed area. The steel that we recommend has obtained excellent results under fracture mechanic toughness test (CTOD).
